Early Morning Prayer & Praise
Edition: September 2016
Topic: I Will Arise To LOVE
Bible Scripture: 1 Corinthian 12:1-11
Co-ordinator: Min Gwen Madden
This month, we are reminded that LOVE covers all, and, as a body of Christ, we are to understand that the gifts and talents we have are to profit all – verse 7.
According to Apostle Paul, he writes to shed light and deeper understanding on how to serve God with the gifts he has given. He reminds us that we do not choose these gifts and no one person can have all the gifts – verse 8.
Verse 12 explains the true identity of LOVE. It reveals that we all have diverse gifts and are members of one body and so is Christ.
In order to Arise (as individuals and church), we are made to understand that Love is the foundation. We must learn to appreciate our own gifts and those of other people (without comparing).
We are reminded that REFLECTION and APPRECIATION to God are essential when it comes to gifts that have been freely given. One who is able to appreciate (love) is able to SEE the beauty in others’ gifts and work closely and in one accord for the benefit of the church to the glory of God.
If LOVE is absent, an individual/ the church falls into a situation that makes them go astray. They confuse ‘other’ spirit and gifts to that of God, just like the Corinth Church were doing until Apostle Paul wrote to them.
Christ is Love and we as a body are to EMULATE the one we serve in order to work together.
To emulate Love means to embody what 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says. Love is……..
- Patient, Kind, Does not Envy, Does not Boast, Not Proud
- Does not Dishonour others, Not Self Seeking, Not easily Angered, Keeps No Record of Evil
- Does not delight in Evil but Rejoices with the Truth
- Always Protects, Trust, Hopes, Persevere
- Never Fails.
But where there are prophecies, they will cease, where there are tongues, they will be stilled, where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
Above all, everything we do must be done with Love (1 Corinthians 16:14) as Love covers All (1 Peter 4:8)
